Ski touring in the region

Ski tour on Sudelfeld: Rosengasse - Vogelsang

If you don't have much time, then this little pleasure tour is just the thing for you. Despite the trail’s proximity to the ski area, you'll have the impression of being in a peaceful, faraway land. This is because you’re actually in a different valley. You can park in Rosengasse (parking machine, about € 3, no change). From here, the tour starts at a leisurely pace. First along the path to the west. You may even encounter a few skiers along the way. Further back the skier's trail branches off in an arc to the north, but we keep heading south and leave the beaten track to continue on hopefully untouched powder snow. The trail then continues uphill in a westerly direction before eventually turning north-west and traversing a western slope below. The final section is very steep and can only be accomplished with switchbacks. The descent conditions can vary greatly. (Anyone who is not confident here can also ski down the ski slope. Simply go from the Vogelsang run into the Rosengasse run and turn right after the steep slope. This will bring you back to the starting point.) Avalanche danger is generally not that great. It is greater on the northern slope of the Little Traithen, which you can easily avoid.

  • Difficulty: medium
  • Distance: 1.9 km
  • Duration: 1 h 15 min
  • Ascent: 459 m elvation gain
  • Descent: 5 elevation loss

Ski tour on Sudelfeld: To Big Traithen

Moderately difficult ski tour up to Big Traithen at 1852 m above sea level. Descent includes some technical passages. Beware of avalanche danger. Recommended for more experienced tourers.

Big Traithen tour

  • Difficulty: moderate - difficult
  • Duration: 2 h 20 min
  • Distance: 7.2 km
  • Elevation gain: ascent 780
  • Starting point: Gasthaus Rosengasse in Sudelfeld

Chiemsee-Alpenland: Popular ski tour circuit

The starting point is the car park below Bergasthof Rosengasse alpine inn (1,100 m) - please park in the car below below, the other parking spaces belong to the inn. Then directly from the car park to the south over the short, free slope up to the edge of the forest. The ascent begins shortly after - it takes you up a fairly steep slope (a good 35 °) to the left. After about 60 minutes of ascent you’ll reach the steepest and narrowest part of the ascent, which you ascend with switchbacks in some sections to a somewhat flatter forest clearing, and then continue along the ridge (ski tour markings) along the now much flatter ascent. You now easily climb the ridge up to the saddle and through the Steilner Joch mountain pass. A short stretch over a ridge overgrown with pine trees follows until you can traverse to the right about 100 m below the summit to the saddle on the ridge. From here without any orientation difficulties (even in fog) along the ridge to the summit of Big Traithen (1,852 m), from where you can see Mt. Wendelstein summit to the north and the Mt. Rotwand to the west.
There are several options for the descent - if you don't know your way around and are not familiar with the area, you should take this version: From the summit, ski down the northwestern flank of Big Traithen, which is interspersed with mountain pines, then down to the north-northeast to a long mountain pass between Big and Little Traithen. Here you ride a short distance east into the basin, but make sure you keep left to reach a saddle in a few steps. Then out of it through a very steep gully (so-called Stopselzieher - about 40 degrees in sections) down and further north until you meet the piste at the end, on which you ski down to Rosengasse. Fantastic tour with a 2-2.5 hour climb and a beautiful descent, especially in the lower section.

  • Difficulty: medium
  • Distance: 7.7 km
  • Duration: 1 h 56 min
  • Ascent: 1,500 m elevation gain
  • Descent: 860 m elevation loss

Ski tour Rotwand and Hochmiesing - the classic Rotwand Reibn loop

Very popular, long and also strenuous ski tour with an Alpine element. There are several variants and shortcuts (e.g. ascent with the Taubensteinbahn cable car: shortens tour by one hour).
For decades, the Rotwand Reibn has been one of the best classic ski loops of the “Munich ski mountains”, and it still enjoys great popularity. Nevertheless, it is a strenuous undertaking that should not be underestimated, especially because of the counter climbs. But that has never put off real touring enthusiasts...
The highest point of the Reibn is Mt. Rotwand. At 1885 m above sea level, it is almost the same as Mt. Hochmiesing, which of course we also want to climb.
Tip:
If the snow is stable, there is a very exciting downhill variant that is reserved for advanced ski tourers. From the summit, it first leads down along the ridge for a short while and then to the left into the steep gully next to the Nebelwand. If there are strong snow drifts, you have to bravely jump over the cornice into the chasm (and come up safely) or you won't get the adrenaline rush. If the conditions are safe, keep as far to the left as possible out of the Nebelrinne in order to shorten the ascent to the Miesingsattel.

  • Difficulty: medium
  • Distance: 15.7 km
  • Duration: 6 h
  • Ascent: 1,460 m elevation gain
  • Descent: 1,460 m elevation loss

Mt. Taubenstein ski tour

Das The ski tour destinationfor Munichers.
Bavarian Alps: Popular ski tour
This popular ski tour takes you over beautiful slopes, which since winter 2015/2016 have been reserved exclusively for tourers. The lift service on Mt. Taubenstein has been discontinued, which is why the slopes are no longer groomed. Only the lift at Maxlraineralm remains in operation when required. The slope there is groomed.
Tip:
Daily at Taubensteinhaus alpine club hut during the week, on Wednesdays at Rauhkopfhütte - ski touring evening. The Taubensteingipfelstüberl and the Schönfeldhütte also offer a regular table for ski tourers.

  • Difficulty: easy
  • Distance: 3 km
  • Duration: 1 h 45 min
  • Ascent: 540 m elevation gain
  • Descent: 540 m elevation loss

Roßkopf - Beginner's tour on Spitzingsee

This route takes you along relatively easy slopes. The tour is therefore only worthwhile when the lifts are not in operation, i.e. before the start of the season or after Easter, provided there is still enough snow. When the lift is in operation, please only ascend outside of the lift times.

The slopes on the Roßkopf have long been used as a practice area for newcomers to touring, or to catch some fresh air outside of the piste season. The snow reliability of the Spitzingseeberge is always great.
Tip:
A short ascent alternative starts next to the cable car station at the Münchner Haus. If you choose this route, you'll climb the slope to the Stümpflingalm and then the last few metres over the free south-west ridge to the summit.
Another ascent variant begins at the Suttenbahn chairlift valley station and leads to the Jagahütt'n mountain restaurant via the Sutten slopes, which have a lower snow guarantee but usually have a lot of snow. From there it takes you on a new path to the Stümpflingalm and then to the summit.

  • Difficulty: easy
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Duration: 2 h 30 min
  • Ascent: 550 m elevation gain
  • Descent: 550 m elevation loss
